Herbert married Laura Kinnunen in 1948 in Minnesota.
He lived in the Trout Lake area all of his life, where he farmed and worked for Cleveland-Cliffs Mining Company for 34 years, retiring in 1980 as a drill operator.
Herbert was an accomplished trapper and very knowledgeable on wolves.
He was a member of the Trout Lake Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Laura; two daughters, Colleen Point and LaDonna Flier; three sisters, Agnes Skurich, Syrie Benson and Celia Polzin; two granddaughters, and four grandsons.
Herbert died at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota. (Block 145)
