    Howard married Doris Allen on August 20, 1925.

    Howard worked as an accountant for Northern States Power Company in Montevideo and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He later owned and operated a hardware store with his sons in Hill City, Minnesota and also served as the postmaster in Hill City, Minnesota, retiring in 1971.

    He was a life member of the American Legion Post in Hill City, Minnesota and was the oldest member.

    Preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in 1985; two brothers, Sandford and Earl; and two sisters, Eva and Minnie; Howard is survived by two sons, Bruce and Howard, Jr.,; one daughter, Joan Jaakkola; four brothers, Donald, Elden, Ray and Roy; two sisters, Laura and Zella Egesdal; nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

    Howard died at Leisure Hills Health Care Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Macville Cemetery at Swatara, Minnesota.
