Howard grew up in Warba, Minnesota.
He married Verda-May Gorst on May 28, 1948.
Howard resided in Grand Rapids and worked as an electrician for United States Steel for 34 years. He also worekd for Grand Rapids Township for 13 years.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alice Russell and Phyllis Demings.
He is survived by his wife, Verda; three sons, Ken (Ofelia), Steve (Beth), and Brad (Mary); three daughters, Janis (Jim) Barton, Lorilee (Dale) Vroman, and Rhonda (Dale) Chapin; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Howard died at his home and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
