Jack served in the United States Navy on the USS Wichita through most of the great battles of the Pacific from 1942 on.

Information from a news article in the Itasca News Deer River, dated May 30, 1946:
"Jack Goltz, Burned April 21, Died Sunday From Effects of Burns
Jack Goltz of Marcell, who was badly burned in a fire which caught in their home Easter Sunday night when he and his wife returned home after spending the day at the home of Mrs. Goltz' mother, Mrs. Clara Ford of the same community, died at the Itasca hospital, Grand Rapids Sunday night from the effects of the burns. Mrs. Goltz, who was badly burned also, is reported to be recovering nicely from her burns."
Jack had received his discharge in 1945 and entered business at Marcell. His father, J. F. Goltz, died two weeks ago (April, 1946).
Surviving in addition to the widow, are a son, Robert J.; his mother, Mrs. John F. Goltz; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Jelenich and Mrs. J. F. Smetama.
Jack is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-B-37-1-6)
