    James grew up and attended schools in Chicago, Illinois.

    Following his discharge, James lived in Northome, Minnesota and worked as a bricklayer.

    He married Myrtle Nesseth on February 6, 1957 in Superior, Wisconsin.

    They lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and Jamestown, North Dakota before moving to West Fargo, North Dakota in 1968. He worked as a bricklayer in the Fargo area until his health forced him to retire in 1982.

    James was very active in the West Fargo Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was a life member.

    James is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one son, Howard; one daughter, Judy Everett; two sisters, Grace Kolivosky and Margaret Olson; and four grandchildren.

    James died in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is buried in Rosy Cemetery in Itasca County, Minnesota.
