James was raised and attended schools in Kansas City, Missouri. At the age of 18, he moved to San Diego, California.
James came to Grand Rapids, Minnesota following his discharge from the United States Army.
He married Bernadine Wagner in 1948 in Grand Rapids and worked for 32 years for the Blandin Paper Company. He retired in 1978 as a super calender operator. He was a member of the Grand Rapids American Legion Post and a life member of the VFW Post in Grand Rapids.
James is survived by his wife, Bernadine; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Fay) Lantinen, Mrs. Larry (Brenda) Smith, and Anne Wagner; three sons, Allen in the United States Air Force at Calumet, Michigan, James E. and Roger Lee; one sister, Dorothy Hill, and six grandchildren.
Interment was at the Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth, Minnesota. No photo of grave marker is available at this time.
