    James enlisted in the United States Marines in 1957. He spent eight years in the reserves.

    Jim was employed for 38 years in the instrument shop at Blandin Paper Company. Upon retirement, he volunteered at the Grand Rapids Food Shelf for a number of years.

    Jim's hobbies were woodworking, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, camping, hunting, and fishing. Jim enjoyed curling, bowling, softball, golf, watching Minnesota Twins and Vikings football. A Grand Rapids sports booster, Jim enjoyed watching and attending Grand Rapids High School games.

    Jim was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Minnesota where he served several terms as a Trustee and on the Board of Elders. He was an avid participant in Bible studies. He was a member of American Legion Post #60.

    Jim was preceded in death by his father, S. R. Firman and his grandparents.

    He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dottie; daughter, Julie (Bill Kinner); son, Michael (Sheri) Firman; two grandsons; mother, Johanna; sister, Sue (Gary) Berg; brothers, Richard (Sally), David (Kris) and Robert; and several nieces and nephews.

    Jim passed away peacefully at his home after a seven year battle with COPD. He is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-D-2-2)
