James Desjardin married Gertrude Rath in 1955 in Minnesota. He worked at Honeywell as an engineer and manager for more than 30 years, working in Minneapolis and later in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the first manager at Honeywell to have a desktop computer and because of his pioneering example, personal computers began springing up around Honeywell. His computer expertise was used after retirement as he volunteered to produce professional newsletters for many organizations, including Friends of the Library and the Citrus County Historical Society, and he also did computer repairs for his neighborhood.

Jim died in Gainesville, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gertrude; his brother, Eugene; six daughters, Therese, Marie, Lucy (Gery), Julie (Tom), Karen, and Laurie; three granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
