James was a residence of the Bigfork, Minnesota area since 1945.

Surviving relatives include special friend Donna Hansen; his mother, Ilene Ydstie; son, Scott; sisters, Beverly Georgiff and Sharon Palmer; brother, Donald Fritcher; and several nieces and nephews.

James died in Northern Itasca Nursing Home in Bigfork, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota.
