James was raised and attended schools in Fulton County near Fairburn, Georgia.

He married Daisy E. Christensen on March 11, 1939, at Chicago, Illinois.

James lived in Chicago, Illinois for many years working as an electrician for the City of Chicago. He returned to Fairburn and also maintained a summer residence in Bigfork, Minnesota. He also worked as an electrician while living in Fairburn.

James was a member of the American Legion at Bigfork, Minnesota.

Surviving relatives include his wife and numerous nieces and nephews.

James died in Itasca Nursing Home in Grand Rapids and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-B-14-0-3)
