  • Military Highlights:
    I served from 1990 to 2000. My first four years were in the United States Navy on the USS Savannah AOR4. The Savannah was a Wichita-class, fast attack oiler that was equipped with two CH-46 Knight helicopters and sea sparrow missile systems, coupled with the installation of two Phalanx Close-in Weapon Systems (CWIS). Home port was Norfolk, Virginia.


    1991-1992 - Theatre of Operation was the Arabian Gulf, Persian Gulf War. We were part of the US America Battle group and enforced the "no fly zones" in that reigon. Transit of the Suez Canal in January, 1992 and patrolled the Gulf for four months. During that time, we were engaged by five gunboats from Iraq Navy. Two F-14s Tomcats from the USS America made them change their heading and they retreated to the coast with no shots fired.


    I left active duty in July, 1992 and joined the Naval Reserve--Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25 (NMCB 25), United States Navy Seabees. Forward deployed to Guam. I was stationed at Orote Point mineral deposit at the Camp Covington base in Guam. I trained on explosive ordnance, detonating island coal reserves for processing into Class 5.


    1994-2000 - I left the Navy and joined the Minnesota Guard to train closer to home. Forward Operation at Camp Ripley--first in Delta Company and later in Charlie Company.
