As a child, John moved to the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area.
After the service, he worked in the iron ore mines, retiring from United States Steel after more than 30 years of service.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Kalys; second wife, Joanne; brothers, Albert, Elmer, Wallace and Robert; and sisters, Julia Palmer, Florence Bright, Roseann Olson and Ruby and Rose Garrison.
John is survived by his wife, Irene; sons, John and Michael; daughters, Wendy Tech and Sandra Stone; brothers, Butler, Chester, Herman, and Doran; sisters, Hattie Taggert, Minnie Chandler, Flora "Midge" Skinaway; and Ida Rahn; twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
John died in Ocala, Florida and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. No photo of grave marker is available at this time. (Plot 2.20.3.2)
