John spent many happy hours flying planes of various shapes and sizes. He achieved his commercial pilot's license in 1957. John was an airline captain and chief pilot for Mesaba Airlines, retiring in 1993. He continued to flight instruct in the area until recently.
John was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1764 of Bigfork, Minnesota.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kathy.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Hope (Sitz) Perkins; his daughters, Sherry (Jon) Sand, Connie (Todd) Aalto; five grandchildren; sister, Patricia Johnson; and brother, William (Erma).
John died in his home at Bigfork, Minnesota from pancreatic cancer and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 1.7.?.?)
