John Moroni worked for 35 years at Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company and also for Troumbly Brothers. He married Toini Nuorala Benson in 1982 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was a member of Bethel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Bovey, Minnesota, and the VFW Post 4016 of Bovey. He loved the outdoors, fishing, spending time with family, and golfing.
John died in Grand Village Nursing Home, Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 116). He is survived by his wife, Toini; a son, Greg (Diane) Moroni; a daughter, Donna (William) Bordwell; step-children, Lola (Mike) Meyers, Julie Campbell, Glen Benson, and Jon Benson; a brother, Thomas Moroni; eleven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
