    John grew up in Nashwauk, Minnesota until he joined the United States Navy during World War II.

    John was married to Joanne Olson on June 9, 1951.

    John and Joanne made their home on Swan Lake in Pengilly, Minnesota. They later moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    John worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company, retiring in 1976.

    He devoted his life to volunteering for many organizations. John was very active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, Food Shelf, American Legion, and many more.

    John is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Cathy Hughes; sons, John (Rosemary) and Steven (Marianne Barrera); brothers, Benjamin and Anthony (Jan); five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

    John died at home after a long battle with cancer and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-G-19-08)
