John served in the Engineers and served overseas in France.

Mr. Kjellin came to Chicago, Illinois in 1897 and moved to Bena, Minnesota in 1912.
He worked on the federal dam at Winnibigoshish, worked with timber crews and later for Hanna Mining at Nashwauk, Minnesota.
He came to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1935 and worked as stonemason, carpenter and contractor until illness forced his retirement.
John was a member of the VFW and Itasca Barracks of World War I veterans.
Survivors are his wife, Frances; four sons, Robert, Donald, John and Thomas; cousin, Mrs. James Rowley; and nine grandchildren.
John was struck and killed by a car near his home about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 1964, while walking.
John is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 1.8.4.1)
