    Following school, Joe worked as a logger.

    Following discharge from the service, Joseph returned to the area and married Nora Erickson on October 29, 1946.

    The couple resided in Deer River, Minnesota and in 1952 moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was employed with Campbells John Deere in Deer River, Minnesota and then worked for United States Steel as a blaster and heavy equipment mechanic until his retirement in 1980.

    Joseph was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2720, Deer River, Minnesota, the Grand Rapids Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was also active in the Forest History Center as a bull cook, had published many writings with the Minnesota Historical Society and provided volunteer music services for many area nursing homes.

    Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Edward, and one sister, Agnes; he is survived by his wife, Nora; two daughters, Jolynn Felosi and Barbara Diebold; three sons, Dean, Bruce, and Mark; one sister, Katherine Miller; three brothers, James, Charles and Robert; and seven grandchildren.

    Joseph died at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Olivet Cemetery at Deer River, Minnesota.
