Joseph grew up and attended school in Swatara and Palisade, Minnesota. He was married to Lucille "Dolly" Bozych on May 20, 1947. Following their marriage, they moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota from Palisade. He worked 27 years for United States Steel at Coleraine, Minnesota retiring in 1974 for health reasons. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Preceded in death by his parents; he is survived by his wife Lucille "Dolly"; one daughter, Linda Washburn; two sons, Larry and John Bishop; four sisters, Isabelle Washburn, Irene LaFrenierre, Delores Headle, and Grace Bures; two brothers, Edward and Bernard; and nine grandchildren.
Buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 3.19.2.1)
