    Joseph moved to Willow Valley Township in Cook County, Minnesota at the age of two with his family. He was raised and attended school there.

    Joe worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry for 40 years, retiring in 1970. He worked in Orr, Hibbing, St. Paul, and Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    Joe married Ethel Newman in 1972.

    He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Flyway Over 50 Club of Grand Rapids.

    Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Hedberg, in 1971.

    He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three sons, Lloyd, Donald, and Robert; three step-sons, Jan Newman, Timothy Newman, and Thomas Newman; two stepdaughters, Marie Longway and Betty Potter; two brothers, George and Martin; twenty-five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

    Joe died at Noel, Missouri and is buried in Willow Valley Cemetery at Cook, Minnesota.
