Lawrence entered the United States Army in 1917 and served with the Minnesota 558th Casual Company,

Lawrence came to Spang Township, Itasca County, in 1906 and homesteaded. He returned to Hill City, Minnesota after his service to work in a general store and sawmill. He then went to Wendigo in Harris Township, Itasca County in 1921 and was married to Mary E. Urben in 1923.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and World War I Veterans.
Survivors are his wife, Mary; four sons, Rodney, Roger, Robert, and LeRoy; a daughter, Mrs. Calvin Leaf; a brother, Arthur; and twenty-seven grandchildren.
Lawrence died at home and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 1.7.4.2).
