Leo Heiniemi married Eileen Scheer. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs and the Danube Mining Companies for five years; owned and operated a gas station, tavern and a motel in the Swan River area until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the American Legion Post #432 of Warba, 49er's Local Engineers Union-Minneapolis, Teamsters Union-Denver, Colo. and International Union of Operating Engineers-Washington.
Leo died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in the Trout Lake Community Cemetery, Bovey, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; two sons, Richard and Gene; one daughter, Carmen (Alvin) Rinta; three brothers, Elmer, Hugo and Matt; two sisters, Hilda (Art) Nevala and Evelyn Bernard; and six grandchildren.
