Leonard Dimatteo worked as a diesel shovel oiler for the Oliver Iron Mining Co, in Coleraine, Minnesota. He married Joan Geisler in 1947 in Bigfork, Minnesota. He began his career as a Minnesota State Highway Patrol Officer in the Little Falls area, retiring in August 1978. He built houses and drove school bus for the handicapped until retiring for a second time in 1984. He was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and the Minnesota State Patrol and Peace Officers Association.
Leonard died in Little Falls, Minnesota and is buried in Calvary Cemetery, Little Falls, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Jan Fransen; sons Laurence and wife Georgie, Jay and Jeff; and one grandchild, Jodi Deutsch.
