Lester was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; four daughters, Patricia McDaniel, Sandra Ward, Sue Evans, and Wendy Wetherbee; his sister, Lorraine Moe; and eleven grandchildren.
Lester died at the Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, Minnesota. He is buried in Oak Land Cemetery in Brainerd, Minnesota.
