Lester moved to Goodland, Minnesota in 1949 where he farmed and worked for Cleveland-Cliffs Mining Company. He retired in 1971.
Lester was a member of Goodland Presbyterian Church, the Goodland American Legion, and the Pengilly Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Pengilly, Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; three sons, John, James, and Thomas; two daughters, Sandra Grezek and Judy Nordby; three sisters, Florence Guerdet, Pearl Burt, and Irene Taylor; and sixteen grandchildren.
Lester died at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery at Goodland, Minnesota.
