Marvin Mitchell married Aune Makinen in 1932 in Minnesota. He was a police officer in Coleraine for several years. He attended the FBI Academy and served as Itasca County Sheriff for 16 years. He was a charter member of the Grand Rapids United Methodist Church, a member of the Cap Baker Lions Club in Grand Rapids, the Aad Shrine Temple in Duluth, and the Canisteo Masonic Lodge in Coleraine.
Marvin died at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 146). He is survived by his wife Saima; a daughter, Alice Alexander; a step-son, Tom Lyden; a step-daughter, Carol Harker; a sister Nola Stangler; five brothers, Mac, Ben, David, Paul, and Dean; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Aune; two sons, Marvin Jr. and Jack; and a brother, Peter.
