Melvin had been an area resident for 53 years.
He married June McLean in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on September 14, 1940. Mr. Carlson was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, McVeigh-Dunn Post 60 of the American Legion and Local 589 of Plumbers and Fitters of Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, June; three sons, Donald, Richard, and James; one brother, Alroy; one sister, Mrs. Otto (Anna Louise) Larson; and seven grandchildren.
