    Melvin Mellan married Patricia McKinney in Walker, Minnesota in 1952. He worked for U.S. Steel for 25 years as a diamond drill and steel mill operator, retiring in 1977. He was an active member of the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling and snowmobiling.

    Melvin died at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota where he had resided for the last two years. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 137); He is survived by his nephew, Roger (Mary) Hoff; niece, Betty (Hoff) Bergerud; sister-in-law, Fran John; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patricia; mother, Nettie; father, Carl; and sister, Laura (Hoff) Mellan.
