    He married Harriet Bloom in 1966 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He worked various jobs as a laborer and machinist and was a member of the McVeigh-Dunn No. 60 American Legion of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    He is survived by his wife, Harriet; three daughters, Kathy Olson, Phyllis Leach, and Gail Winger; two sons, Steve and Randy; three sisters, Minerva Mahn, Muriel Larson, and Maxine Daniels; a brother, Marvin; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

    Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jerry Bloom, in 1967.
