Neil lived in Bemidji, Minnesota most of his life until coming to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1960 following his discharge from the United States Air Force. He worked for Gabby's Arrowhead Vending and worked as a school bus driver for School District #318 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
For 12 years Neil had been a member of the Grand Rapids Fire Department. He was a member of the local Moose and Eagles Club of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was a member of the Unitarian Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife, Gayle; daughters Barbara, Judy, Cathy, Patricia, Julie and Marcy Wopata, and Myra (Joseph) Daley. Three sons survive, John, Steve, and Thomas. Two brothers survive, Spencer and Noel; and one grandson, John Batchelder also survives. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
