    indoctrination at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. His recruit training consists of instruction in seamanship, military drill and general Naval procedure. During this period a series of aptitude tests will be taken by the recruit to determine whether he will be assigned to a Naval Service School, to a shore station or to immediate duty at sea. When his recruit training is completed, the seaman will receive a period of leave.

    Oiva died in Sonoma County, California and is buried in Santa Rosa Memorial Park (Veteran's Lawn/Urn Garden), Santa Rosa, California (Grave 1004-3A). He is survived by his wife, Lila M. Koski; son Michael Koski; daughter Nancy Northern; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
