Olaf enlisted in the United States Navy after Pearl Harbor. He served in the military in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.

Olaf grew up in Boy Island, (Boy River?) Minnesota and attended the Chippewa and Norwegian School up to eighth grade.
He owned a hotel and garage in Bena, Minnesota and after being discharged in 1945, he returned to Boy River, Minnesota, married, and opened a grocery store. He had several businesses and worked as a carpenter throughout the United States and in Greenland.
Olaf is survived by a special friend, Frances Johnson; one son, Tony; two daughters, Terri Shelton and Tina Bellis; and eight granddaughters.
Olaf died at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot C-A-19-1-5)
