After entering the service, Raymond trained in Texas, Louisiana, California, and Pennsylvania. He was sent overseas August, 1943.
Raymond was a member of the 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division.

Raymond saw some heavy action in the Invasion of Europe before being killed. He was a rifleman in the United States Infantry.
Information from news article in Itasca News-Deer River, dated December 7, 1944:
Mrs. Gertrude Walsh, formerly of this place but who is now making her home in Grand Rapids, received word Monday that her son, PFC Raymond Walsh, who was reported missing in action since November 9, had been killed in action in the Battle of Metz, Germany, where he was a member of the 2nd Army, 95th Infantry Division.
Mrs. Walsh had received word on November 27 that Raymond was missing in action at Metz. Monday the word came that he had been killed in action.

Mother Receives Son's Purple Heart Citation
Mrs. Gertrude Walsh received last week the citation and purple heart, which was awarded her son, PFC Raymond E. Walsh. PFC Walsh was killed in action in France on November 9.

In 1923, Raymond's parents came to Deer River, and he made his home here from that time until he entered the service in July 1942.
In school, Raymond was in the band and he was a member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) organization of boys taking the agricultural course in the high school.
Raymond is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Walsh; three brothers, Donald, Lyle, and Larry; and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Staeger and Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Welte.
Raymond's monument is at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, Normandy, France. No photo of marker is available at this time. (Plot J, Row 18, Grave 16)
