    Remington was one of the few remaining old soldiers of Itasca County and saw service in the Civil War with the heavy artillery from New York state.

    He is survived by his son, Julius. and a daughter. His wife died in 1911.

    There is a discrepancy between the grave marker and the obituary found in the February 2, 1921 edition of the Grand Rapids Herald Review. The obituary states that Remington died in 1921.
