  • Civilian Life:
Dick grew up with his four siblings, Bobby, Patricia (Patti), Donald (Duke) and Donna.

On October 10, 1942, Dick married Jane Flewelling.

Dick and Jane had four children together--Scott, Jill, Kelly, and Dori--and were married for 47 years.

In 1976, pursuing his love of the outdoors, Dick and his family moved to Minnesota and purchased Driftwood Resort on Sand Lake, where he welcomed guests for 25 years. He raised his family in Grand Rapids and became life-long friends with many visitors to the resort.

Many know Dick as an avid fisherman, a dedicated golfer, and a lively friend and host. He loved the outdoors and delighted in the company of friends; but his greatest joy was his family. Dick will best be remembered as a devoted father to his four children, a loving friend and companion to his wife, and an affectionate grandfather to his eight grandchildren. His life will be both celebrated and missed.

Dick is survived by his wife, Jane; his four children and their spouses; Scott and Sonya, Jill and Bob Havlik, Kelly and Frank Rohde, and Dori and Bill Farrey; his eight grandchildren; his step-mother, Lillian Ducett; his brothers, Bobby and Donald; his sister, Patricia Litowchak; and his step-sisters, Marilyn Larson and Barb Grant.

Dick developed complications from multiple myeloma and spent his last days surrounded by family. The family held a private service.
