Richard served in the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1946.
Richard served with the Headquarters Battery 143rd AAA Gun Battalion.

Richard served in Civilian Conservation Camps near Bigfork, Minnesota.
He married P. Jacqueline Juin in Paris, France on March 24, 1945. They moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in April, 1946. He retired in 1979 after 33 years with United States Steel.
Richard is survived by his wife, P. Jacqueline; a son, Glenn; three daughters, Lorraine Curtiss, Michele Curlee, and Christine Flannigan; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Richard died at home of cancer and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 3.20.4.2)
