Richard was a member of the United States Air Force for twenty-three years, retiring in 1990 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Information in the Grand Rapids Herald Review, dated October 12, 1972-With our men in service:
United States Air Force Captain Richard E. Dibble, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Dibble, Ball Club, Minnesota, has received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while engaged in military operations against Viet Cong forces.
Captain Dibble was cited for his outstanding duty performance as an aircraft maintenance officer at DaNang Air Base, Vietnam.
He was honored in ceremonies at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he now serves as chief of the Aircraft Maintenance Training Branch of the 3773rd instructor squadron, a unit of the Air Training Command. Air Training Command provides flying, technical, and basic military training for United States Air Force personnel.
The captain, a 1964 graduate of Deer River High School in Deer River, Minnesota, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French in 1968 from the University of Minnesota at Duluth, Minnesota where he was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
His wife, Betty, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marlen W. Smith of Deer River, Minnesota.

Richard worked in management for the Job Corps Center in Sacramento for two years. He was also the Director of the Sacramento office of the California Veterans Resource Center for six years.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Dibble of Ball Club, Minnesota in 1998; and his mother, Maybelle Dibble of Ball Club, Minnesota in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Smith), formerly of Deer River, Minnesota; children, Catherine Pittman, Thomas Dibble, Lisa Schultz, and Matthew Dibble and seven grandchildren.
Richard died in Sacramento, California and internment was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum at Sacramento, California. (Holy Rosary Niches, Tier B 1, Niche 22)
