Bob Mickelson attended schools in Isanti, Minnesota, moved to Bovey, Minnesota in the late 1930s, and had been a Grand Rapids, Minnesota resident since 1978. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for U.S. Steel for 37 years, retiring in 1977. He attended the Faith Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, was a member of the Lawrence Lake American Legion, the Grand Rapids Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Bob died at his home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 30). He is survived by three sons, Edward Mickelson, Robert Mickelson, and David Mickelson; two daughters, Colleen Smith and Carol Preble; a sister, Carolyn Erickson; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Weldon Mickelson; and a sister, Doris Gube.
