Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Seabees from 1943-1946.

Bob taught English and French for many years and served as principal of the Grand Rapids Middle School in Grand Rapids, Minnesota from 1968-1991.
He was a member of the Grand Rapids School Board from 1995-2002.
Bob also served as president of the Grand Rapids Library Board, Executive Board at Itasca Community Television (ICTV) and member of District 318 Endowment Foundation, all in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothy; sons, William (Betty), Brian (Jane), and Robert (Laura); daughters Beth (Keith) Kraemer, Leann (David) Lindahl, and Mindy (Jon) Nuhring; eighteen grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will be remembered by all for the contribution he made to the children and people of the Grand Rapids community.
Bob died at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-G-20-3-1)
