Rodney served in the United States Navy during World War II as a corpsman.

Rodney lived most of his life in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He worked for Leisure Hills Nursing Home for the past eighteen years as a licensed practical nurse and later in the maintenance department.
He married Betty Smith on August 7, 1946.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rodney, Jr., who died in 1980.
Survivors are his wife, Betty; daughters, Marylee Kirkpatrick, Dianna Benes, and Brenda Stockwell; a son, Douglas; a sister, Joy Leaf; a brother, Leroy; sixteen grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Rodney died at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Raids, Minnesota and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 1.4.1.2)
