In February of 1943, Roger enlisted in the United States Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

When Roger was four years old, he moved with his family to a farm near the Rum River in Cambridge, Minnesota. He attended West Riverside Country School and graduated from Cambridge High School.
After returning to Cambridge, Roger married Phyllis Lindberg, his wife for 53 years.
He worked for the Minneapolis Park Board as a tree trimmer, retiring after 30 years of service.
Upon retirement, the couple built a home on Deer Lake where they lived from 1976 to 1988. They then moved back to Cambridge.
Roger is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four children, Barbara, Susan, Kevin, and Terry; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Roger died after a long illness and is buried in Rice Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Braham, Minnesota.
