    Ron married Beverly J. Schirmer on February 21, 1953, at Barrington, Illinois, where he worked 21 years as a police officer.  In 1976 he retired as assistant chief of police with the rank of lieutenant. In that same year he moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota and started Hemmingson Construction in Grand Rapids.  In 1979 he moved to the Wabana Lake area and also operated Hemmingson's Birch Bay Resort on Wabana Lake.

    He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the board of trustees.  He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a past commander of the American Legion, both in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.  He was an accomplished wood carver and a member of the Itasca Wood Carvers Club and also a member of the Itasca County Resort and Tourism Association and was active in the Chamber of Commerce in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    He is survived by his wife, Beverly; three daughters, Belva Shelhamer, Lorrie Yeschick, and Sherry Thatcher; and three grandchildren.
