    Roy married Doreen Bjelland on April 10, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    He had been a shovel operator for Cleveland Cliffs Mining for forty years, retiring in the early 1980's.

    He and his wife were blessed with six children, Russell, Larry, Loni, Charles, Robert and John.

    Tragedy struck the family on November 7, 1980, when they lost Charles in a car accident.

    Roy is survived by his wife, Doreen; sons, Russell (Flora), Larry (Bev), Robert (Jane), and John (Cindy); daughter, Loni (Charlie) Killian; daughters-in law, Linda Eckstrom, Sue Eckstrom, and Sally Koprivech; twenty-seven grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Irene Juhlin; and several nieces and nephews.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Charles; brothers, Wilber, Richard and Robert; and sisters Ruth Rankinen and Gladys Larson.

    Roy was a long-time Pengilly, Minnesota area resident. He died in the Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, losing a courageous battle with cancer. Roy is buried in Nashwauk Cemetery at Nashwauk, Minnesota.
