    Rudy was raised and graduated from high school in Waukegan, Illinois.

    He worked for several years for Johnson Outboard Motors in Waukegan, Illinois. He moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1946 and was united in marriage to Elizabeth Brace in Willmar, Minnesota in 1952.

    With his brother-in-law, he owned and operated Rhodes Sales and Service in Grand Rapids, Minnesota for thirty-five years and then operated a small engines shop at his home for many years.

    He was a member of Camp Wabigama on Bowstring Lake, the Itasca Lodge 208 of Grand Rapids, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Grand Rapids, Greater Pokegama Lake Association, Ducks Unlimited, was a partner of Telephone Pioneers of America and attended First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

    Preceded in death by one sister and three brothers; he is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty"; three daughters, Kristine Swanson, Pamela Bowers, and Teresa Tangen; three sisters, Sonjia "Sue" Tompkins, Edith Oliver, and Norma Naden; one brother, George; and five grandchildren.
