Russell McWilliams married Marie Watt in 1942 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He had owned and operated a Texaco gas station in Calumet, Minnesota; worked as a shovel operator for J & L Mining Co., Calumet; worked for the Great Northern Railroad; worked for the Greenway school district as a custodian and bus driver; and worked as a tour and fossil guide in the Hill Annex Mine State Park, Calumet. He had been a member of the Calumet Fire Department, served on the Calumet City Council and was a Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Marinoff-Miskovich VFW Post 8831 and its Honor Guard.
Russell died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Nashwauk Cemetery, Nashwauk, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Judy (Jack) Gilles, Jeanne (Mike) Evanoff, Mindy (Dave) Klebe, Shawn McWilliams, and Russ McWilliams; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold “Mac” McWilliams and Melvin McWilliams; and a sister, Alice Buse. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Archie McWilliams.
