    Sam married Olga Peterson on February 23, 1944 in Glenwood. They moved to the Grand Rapids area in 1946 where he farmed and worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company for thirty years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for forty-eight years and served on the Harris Town Board for twenty-eight years.

    He is survived by his wife, Olga; son, Robert (Toni); daughters, Joyce (Bill) Epple, Rose (Duane) Boorman, Doris (Joe) Machones, and Wanda (Larry) Birnbaum; eight grandsons; six granddaughters; twelve great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gladyce Warner, Agnes Olson, Lillian Moen, and Mable Westrud.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, David, Arthur, Selmer, Olaf and Bennie; and four sisters, Selma, Fern, Jeanette, and Maryann.
