He married Dolly Myers on December 24, 1951 in Coleraine, Minnesota.
Samuel was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1720 of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, the Lawrence Lake Hurlbut-Ziemer American Legion Post 476 in Bovey, Minnesota for 47 years, Disabled American Veterans Post 1720, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 2023 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and the United Steel Workers Union.
Samuel is survived by a son, Michael (Chong) Sells; three daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Wiswell, Wanda (Bill) Trautman, and Sheila (Arnie) Nichols; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry (Josephine) and Roger (Wendy); three sisters, Lois (Les) Olsen, Betty Gwin, and Vera (Kenneth) Anderson; and special friends, Jeannie Turbes, Vern Radke and Gary Hildreth.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Dolly in 1989; his parents; and a brother, Wayne, Jr.
Sam died at his home and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 3.10.2.4)
