    Sam died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Trout Lake Township, Bovey, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Jean; son J. Allen Neff; daughter, Tracey Ann Neff; brothers, Charles, Cecil, Raymond, and Raleigh; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Harold, Guy, Elmo and Bill; and sister Helen N. Cooper.
