Joined the North Dakota National Guard on October 5, 1953. Lied about my age, I was 15 at the time. Enlisted in the Army in October, 1956. Served with the 99th AAA Gun Battalion in Detroit, Michigan. The next year the unit was disbanded and I was sent to Korea and served a year with the 1st Cavalry Division. After my discharge, I graduated from Dickinson State University, taught high school in Montana, then went back into the Army and became an officer. I served in Turkey, Germany, Vietnam and Stateside.
