Following graduation, Stafford worked for Harriett Motors in Deer River, Minnesota for six years.

After his discharge from the service, he resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota and began employment as an auto mechanic technician.

In 1955, he married Thelma Kallroos in Minneapolis. He retired in 1978 to Squaw Lake, Minnesota and then moved to Deer River in 1995.

Stafford is survived by his wife, Thelma; two sisters, LaDonna Korpela and Ramona Donnell; and four brothers, Stanley, Gordon, Delano and Darrow.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, William.

Stafford died at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. A private family inurnment was held at Olivet Cemetery in Morse Township in Itasca County.
