Ted lived his entire life in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Emmy Kukich in 1945 and began working for the Blandin Paper Company in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1946. He retired as the office manager of the accounting department in 1989 after 43 years of service.
He served on the Grand Rapids Park and Recreation Board, was a member of sports boosters, Grand Rapids Kiwanis, Ponti-Peterson Veterans of Foreign Wars, served as secretary-treasurer of St. Joseph's Men's Club, was a 51-year member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as the financial secretary and as district deputy, was a member of the Pokegama Golf Course Men's Club and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, all in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Margaret Rose, two sisters, and a brother, he is survived by his wife, Emmy; seven daughters, Georgene Betts Roblyer, Debra Smith, Janelle Sloan, Patricia Clusiau, Bobbi Jo Betts Baker, Kimberly Betts, and Michel Betts; two sons, James and Richard; one sister, Marian Kaminen, and eighteen grandchildren.
